Pass Navigo: 100,000 users mistakenly charged

Over 100,000 users were billed when trying to recharge their Pass Navigo in January. Île-de-France Mobilités assures that those affected will be reimbursed.

New trouble for RATP users. Already annoyed by crowded metros and the increase in Pass Navigo prices, several customers have discovered in recent hours that they were being billed by Île-de-France Mobilities. Some were even billed multiple times. The issue was due to a bug, for which the transport authority has apologized.

While trying to get a Pass Navigo for January, some internet users experienced a bug: their card was not recharged, but they were still billed. The problem also affected kiosks located at stations. Some users were finally able to recharge their cards at a ticket counter, an option that didn’t seem accessible to all travelers, as many complained about not finding an open counter. These issues occurred on the first day of the school term, Tuesday, January 3rd, a day when many Île-de-France residents top up their Pass Navigo.

Multiple messages were shared on Twitter, with images showing the amounts deducted. Most of these were significant: 252 euros, 336 euros, or even 588 euros for one user. One person even tried to recharge their Pass Navigo eight times on their phone without success. But upon waking Tuesday morning, they found they had been billed 672.8 euros. When contacted on Twitter, Île-de-France Mobilités confirmed a “technical issue” with the application.

At 11:10 a.m., a new message clarified that the incident had ended. According to IDF Mobilités, recharges are now functioning normally and refunds will be processed automatically “without going through after-sales service.”
