In response to the controversy over the sharp increase at the beginning of January, Belib’ charging stations are reducing their prices in Paris.
In early January, regular users charging in the streets of Paris were hit with a very unpleasant surprise on their bills. Because one can say that TotalEnergies, which operates the 2,300 Belib’ stations in the capital, took advantage of the situation by changing its pricing grid. In some cases, charging a car could cost twice as much compared to 2022! But in response to customer and subscriber protests, the operator is revising its approach.
Since January 23, 2023, three weeks after the new rates were introduced, a new pricing grid has been in effect. Belib’ states that these rates “limit the increase to 20%” compared to last year, roughly matching the tariff shield implemented by EDF on electricity prices (+15%). However, the billing method remains the same, with charges based on a combination of a price per 15-minute interval in addition to the kWh consumed. The rates vary by district type as well.

From now on, the visitor recharge price is €0.35 per kWh + €0.55 per 15 minutes, compared to €0.55 per kWh and €0.78 per 15 minutes previously. This means that our example of charging a Renault Megane E-Tech EV60 for 4 hours would cost €9.68 less than at the beginning of January, or more precisely a 33% reduction. The decrease applies to both slow charging (up to 7 kW) and fast Boost charging (22 kW), which now costs €2.05 per 15 minutes (down from €2.30), and Boost+ (up to 50 kW), reducing its price from €0.50 to €0.38 per minute. Fast charging now costs a few euros less based on our calculations below.

For Belib’ subscribers (€7/year), rates are also decreasing from €0.55 per kWh and €0.60 per 15 minutes to €0.35 per kWh and €0.35 per 15 minutes. Fast charging increases to €2.05 per 15 minutes at 22 kW (from €2.15), and €0.35 per minute at 50 kW (from €0.45).
