Fastned inaugurates a new charging station with the Minister of Transport

Through this symbolic visit to Fastned, Clément Beaune wants to show that the government is mobilized on the issue of infrastructure for electric cars, even though the goal of 100,000 charging points has not yet been achieved.

Fastned has just inaugurated a new fast charging station on the A1, between Paris and Lille. Although it is not a major event in itself, Transport Minister Clément Beaune made the trip to the site to reaffirm France’s objectives regarding infrastructure for electric vehicles.

The new fast charging station is located at the Vémars Est station (Val-d’Oise). It became operational shortly after the Vémars Ouest station, also installed by Fastned and commissioned at the end of last year. The installation includes 16 charging points and can deliver up to 300 kW of power. This is very high power, which no currently sold electric car can handle. However, some models are approaching this limit. For example, a Porsche Taycan, which can theoretically accept up to 270 kW.

Regarding pricing, Fastned charges 59 cents per kWh. A full recharge of a Peugeot e-208 (50 kWh before the update) at this type of station would therefore cost €29.5.

Fastned Ambitious for the Future

Currently, Fastned has deployed just over 250 stations across the Old Continent. This number is expected to increase significantly in the coming years. The Dutch company aims to have 1,000 stations in service in Europe by 2030. France, which currently has 9 Fastned stations, will naturally benefit from this ambitious plan.

In terms of charging infrastructure, France is significantly behind its target schedule. Although the situation is improving month by month, the threshold of 100,000 charging points, which was to be reached in 2021, has not yet been crossed. According to the latest AVERE barometer, there are about 85,000 charging points in the territory.
