Tour de France Guide: Composition of 5 New Teams

The big loop will begin this Saturday, July 1, 2023, with a start in Bilbao. An opportunity for us to unveil five new teams including the UAE Team Emirates, Tadej Pogacar’s team. 

During this edition of the Tour de France, we will notably see the last appearance of Thibaut Pinot with FDJ, where he will be a luxury teammate for David Gaudu, though he will have chances during the mountain stages. Maybe a white jersey with red points for the Franc-Comtois. 

Groupama-FDJ 

David Gaudu, fourth in last year’s Tour de France, will be the leader of this Groupama-FDJ team. His luxury lieutenant will be the excellent Thibaut Pinot. However, it must be admitted that one rider is missing from Marc Madiot’s list: Arnaud Démare, who is still a strong contender for victory in the Tour. 

A team composed of: 

​​David Gaudu (FRA, 26 years), Thibaut Pinot (FRA, 33 years), Valentin Madouas (FRA, 26 years), Stefan Küng (SUI, 29 years), Kevin Geniets (FRA, 26 years), Olivier Le Gac (FRA, 29 years), Quentin Pacher (FRA, 31 years), and Lars Van den Berg (HOL, 24 years).

Astana Qazakstan Team  

The Kazakh team arrives heavily prepared for this new edition of the Big Loop. Alexey Lutsenko will be the team leader. There is also Mark Cavendish, who holds the record for the most stages won in the Tour along with Belgian Eddy Merckx. Two goals for this squad: at least one stage victory with the British rider and the overall classification with the Kazakh.

Israel Premier Tech

The four-time winner of the Tour de France, Chris Froome, was not selected by the team, so he will not participate this year. However, the Israeli team still has strong chances to succeed with Michaël Woods, as well as Canadian Hugo Houle, who won a stage last year.

Movistar Team 

Movistar is fielding the same leader as in previous years, Enric Mas. His goal is the overall classification and to surpass his 5th place in 2020, as well as his 6th place in 2021.

Alex Aranburu (ESP, 27 years), Ruben Guerreiro (POR, 28 years), Gorka Izagirre (ESP, 35 years), Matteo Jorgenson (USA, 23 years), Enric Mas (ESP, 28 years), Gregor Mühlberger (AUT, 29 years), Nelson Oliveira (POR, 34 years), Antonio Pedrero (ESP, 31 years).

UAE Team Emirates 

This team holds gold in its hands. Tadej Pogacar, winner of the Tour de France in 2021, was beaten last year by someone stronger, Jonas Vingegaard. This year, a battle between the two favorites is expected again. He will be accompanied by Rafal Majka and Adam Yates, among others.
