Opel’s Fantasies About the AMI
This page is translated from the original post "Les délires d’Opel autour de l’AMI" in French.

Sometimes the grouping of brands within the same alliance offers us delightful surprises. This is the case for Opel, a member of the Stellantis alliance.
Opel is returning to the tradition of playful and slightly quirky concept cars by presenting two very entertaining vehicles to visitors at the IAA Mobility 2023 show in Munich from September 5 to 10.
Munich Rocks by Opel!
The Opel Rocks e-XTREME and Rocks Electric KARGO will certainly not leave anyone indifferent in the Bavarian capital. Look closely—the front end that looks like the rear, the doors with inverted openings, the two-part side windows,… Yes, these are indeed based on Citroën AMI. The AMI has in fact a nearly identical replica in Opel’s catalog, the Rocks-e. But what happens when young designers are given complete freedom to imagine variants of this small electric city car?

The one-off Rocks e-XTREME is a wild vision of the fun quadricycle with its offset wheels, double triangular front suspension, and bright yellow safety arch. Add a large spoiler that looks cool but serves no real purpose, and you have a vehicle that would turn heads on the roads of the French Riviera, Sunset Boulevard, Copacabana, or even just in Pontault-Combault.

It’s so exhilarating that you’d want to drive it to the office before leaving it with the concierge at the Royal Monceau to run errands at the nearby supermarket. Honestly, it’s a real boost of joy!
Rocks Electric KARGO on the other hand, addresses very different needs. At just 2.41 meters long, 1.39 meters wide, and 1.52 meters tall, the Rocks Electric KARGO offers professionals over 400 liters of configurable cargo space. With a turning radius of only 7.20 meters, this lightweight quadricycle can maneuver through the narrowest alleyways. With an electric range of up to 75 kilometers, it’s ideal for deliveries in urban centers.

Showcasing both a cartoon vehicle and a highly relevant vision of the utility vehicle of tomorrow on the same booth is a remarkable achievement, especially when both are based on a vehicle designed for exclusively urban mobility. Opel has often been criticized for its seriousness—sometimes bordering on bleakness—but this initiative deserves applause. Thank you, Opel, and congratulations, Stellantis!
