When is the Peugeot 408 electric coming?

The Peugeot 408 is expected to receive a 100% electric version this year. But since the announcement in early 2024, silence from the manufacturer.

A first teaser from Peugeot in January 2023 confirmed what everyone suspected. The electric 408 is in the automaker’s plans. As is customary with Peugeot, a very similar model to the thermal and hybrid versions, and if there are differences, they will be as minor as those that distinguish a thermal 208 from a e-208 electric. The sedan profile blended with SUV elements was intended to allow Peugeot to broaden its electric lineup with a rather original proposition.

The technical specifications of the Peugeot e-408 have yet to be disclosed. Since this model is essentially a rebranded 308 with a different body style, it would not be surprising if it shared the 156 hp engine and 54 kWh battery from the e-308, also offered on the e-208 and other Stellantis group electric models. Perhaps also the new 63 kWh capacity battery. If this scenario is confirmed, performance and range will probably not be exceptional, and the e-408 would, for example, be slightly less well-equipped than a Mégane e-Tech or a Volvo EX30… But who knows, maybe the Lion brand has a surprise in store for us, even if it’s not really in its habit?

The electric version of the 408 will complement a lineup that already includes a 130 hp gasoline engine, a 138 hp hybrid, and a 225 hp plug-in hybrid. The pricing for this 100% electric version remains to be seen, as does the presentation date and the launch date. Many questions for a vehicle that is already considered somewhat doomed?
