Kia Prepares an Exciting EV8
Kia aims to reinvent the concept of the underrated Kia Stinger, one of the last affordable rear-wheel-drive gasoline sedans.
The Kia Stinger powered by petrol was discontinued last year. If you regret missing that opportunity, don’t worry. A fresh breeze from Korea indicates that the Stinger will have a successor, and it will be electric. The car will be built on Hyundai-Kia’s new generation EV platform and is expected to be produced in South Korea in 2026.
From SUV to Sedan
The EV8 will share its technical platform with the large Genesis GV90 SUV. Designed to be a family transport vehicle, it features a 113.2 kWh battery, granting it a range of 700 km. Electric platforms have this interesting characteristic of being able to accommodate nearly infinite configurations of size and body styles. Remove the massive body of a large SUV and replace it with an elegant sedan, and you’ll immediately reduce weight, and thus increase range. The EV8 could thus offer over 800 kilometers!
Kia Sticks to Its Principles
A high-end sporty model will deliver 335 horsepower to the front wheels and 266 to the rear, for a combined output of 600 horsepower. An entry-level version with a single 215-horsepower motor on the rear wheels is also in the pipeline.
The first eM platform-based cars are expected to be launched in 2026. This model should fit into the Korean manufacturer’s price range between €45,000 and €55,000.
