For 25,000 Euros, here is the electric Renault 5

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric is not like other cars. It bears the weight of the French brand’s electric shift.

It took Renault only 3 years to develop the successor to a model that captivated millions of drivers throughout a rich and beautiful career. But to succeed an icon like the R5, it was essential to grasp its pure essence while knowing how to project into the future.

When the Renault 5 was born in 1972, it marked its era with its modern and unconventional design. Plastic bumpers, six vibrant colors, and headlights giving it a mischievous, almost human, look. Thanks to its positioning aligned with societal changes, it immediately appealed to the French, especially women and young people—a new clientele for the time. It embodied a breath of fresh air, a symbol of freedom and joy of living.

In the 21st century, the car has become digital, connected, and of course electric. So it was not possible to revive this model without adopting its stylistic markers such as the vertical taillights, sculpted wings, colored roof jonc, or the hood’s ventilation grille. But it also had to project into its era at first glance.

A foot in the past, eyes on the future

Thus, the hood’s ventilation grille is replaced by a charge indicator, and the LED lights give a nod to welcome you. The interior features a wide 10.1-inch screen and seats with a design reminiscent of the original version. It’s fun, colorful, dynamic—in a word, very cheerful!

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric is the first vehicle entirely designed on AmpR Small, the new Ampere platform dedicated to B-segment electric vehicles. It benefits from clear advantages such as a flat floor, a long wheelbase of 2.54 meters, and a trunk volume of 326 liters for a weight below 1500 kg.

Under the hood, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric’s electric motor is more compact than that of the Mégane E-Tech electric and the Scénic E-Tech electric, from which it is derived. It will be available in three power levels: 110, 90, or 70 kW. Its 52 kWh battery provides a range of up to 400 km in WLTP cycle.

Connected and smart

Ultra-connected, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric introduces Reno, Renault’s official AI avatar, a true road companion, intelligent and friendly. Developed by Renault to facilitate and enhance the experience of its customers with electric cars and make it more intuitive, the Reno avatar has a genuine personality. It answers questions and responds to user commands. It promises to evolve with the car based on the instructions and information it receives. According to Luca de Meo, it will be the ideal travel companion for our dear little blond heads.

Finally, Renault 5 E-Tech electric makes charging easier and smarter thanks to many services from the Mobilize ecosystem. Mobilize Power Solutions allows you to order within the Renault network and have a home charging solution installed, Smart Charge enables intelligent and cost-effective home charging, and Charge Pass provides access with a single card to over 600,000 public charging points across 25 European countries. All this while using “hands-free” mode on many compatible DC stations where simply plugging in the Renault 5 E-Tech electric starts charging and secure billing without the need for a card or code, thanks to Plug & Charge.

The launch: Sales will begin in September 2024, with initial deliveries likely early 2025, with prices starting around 25,000 euros.
