Right of Reply: Citroën Confirms the 320 km Range of the ë-C3
While range is a major criterion for choosing an electric car, Citroën rightly defends its small ë-C3.
Yesterday, we published an article titled “Range decrease for the Citroën ë-C3” to highlight the announced reduction in range by Citroën on their website, supported by a screenshot. Indeed, during the presentation of the Citroën ë-C3, which we attended, the range was announced at 320 km, and the Citroën website still shows 300 km today. You might say that only a journalist would nitpick over 20 km, and you wouldn’t be wrong! But this represents over 6% of the total range, and we need to work.
Citroën France responded to us this morning, and we are publishing their full response below:
Following your publication, I want to clarify that the homologation cycle for the ë-C3’s range has been confirmed at over 320 km. However, while awaiting the final homologation value, from a legal perspective and as a precaution, we have changed our communication from “up to 320 km” to “more than 300 km” of range.
I want to assure you that we maintain the range of 320 km for the Citroën ë-C3, and even 324 km for the best version. We have adopted this measure carefully and transparently with regard to our customers.
Additionally, we would like to invite you to issue a correction to your article, reflecting these precise details about the Citroën ë-C3’s range. We believe that this correction will help ensure an accurate understanding of the situation for your readers.
Although it is only a precaution, we can only commend Citroën’s approach. We are used to automakers announcing ranges that are 10, 20, sometimes 30% higher, with the note “subject to approval.” Citroën is doing the opposite, and that is commendable.
Moreover, we reiterate what we have been affirming since the presentation of the ë-C3, and what we also recalled in our article yesterday. 300 km of range is more than enough for a car like the Citroën ë-C3! 320 km would just be better.
