Does Toyota Really Want to Make Electric Vehicles?
Toyota unveiled two new models at the 2024 Beijing International Auto Show. It’s a small start, and only for China.
Toyota assures us that they are working towards an electric mobility future filled with smiles and diversity, catering to the needs of customers in every country. That may be true for others, but in France, with the only bZ4X, we can’t really guess a fully electric strategy. Meanwhile, hybrids are selling like hotcakes and enjoy an excellent reputation for reliability and efficiency.
No doubt remains about the current European strategy of the brand. Toyota has always been one of the automakers most hesitant about electric vehicles, having so far produced only two electric models, the SUV bZ4X and the sedan bZ3, but the brand is slowly preparing for this transition. Here are two new models, or rather two variants of the same model, which perhaps hint at a broader future 100% electric lineup.

The bZ3C is a friendly crossover with a dynamic style that, according to the brand, is aimed at young Generation Z customers. Too bad for the boomers, who are financially better off, but it’s always nice to have a youthful, trendy model on hand… knowing that it will also delight an older clientele pleased with this small sign of coolness.

The bZ3X is a family-oriented SUV that offers spacious interior based on the concept of comfortable mobility. An ideal vehicle for dealing with traffic jams and the detour of the A13, in short. Not very glamorous, but reassuring.

At this stage, it is impossible to go further into the study of these two models, as we have no technical or pricing data. Let’s wait a little longer to see if the journey from concept to reality is completed, and especially whether the value for money matches the appealing appearances of these two Toyotas.
