BYD Dolphin, what is its interior like?
Small in size but not necessarily in price, the new BYD Dolphin relies on its equipment to find its place in the market.
Known for being the world’s leading manufacturer of electrified vehicles and batteries, BYD introduces the Dolphin at the entry level. An energetic urban vehicle with a long range, its look—though not universally loved—cannot be ignored.

A quick glance at the technical sheet makes it clear that the Dolphin benefits from all of BYD’s technological expertise. The 60.4 kWh battery provides a range of 427 km. The Dolphin can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds thanks to its 204 hp/150 kW motor, and reach a top speed of 160 km/h. The 88 kW DC charger can recharge the 30% to 80% in 29 minutes. And as a cherry on top, the Dolphin proudly scored 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash test.

Time to hop into this (not so) tiny Chinese car. The BYD Dolphin measures 4.29 meters long, 1.77 meters wide with mirrors unfolded, and 1.50 meters high. Its interior space is excellent, especially in the rear seats thanks to the flat floor. An 1.85 m tall passenger can sit comfortably in the back without cramps or aches. While electric motors clearly have an advantage for passengers, this is one of them! The trunk capacity is a respectable 345 liters but can be expanded to 1,310 liters when the rear seats are folded in a 60/40 split, effectively tripling the loading space. The car features 20 small storage compartments for everything one might need to keep handy without trouble.

The 360° camera, parking radars, vegan leather electric seats, and a huge panoramic glass roof come as standard features, along with an enormous rotating digital screen that can display information in either landscape or portrait mode. With the steering wheel partially covering the landscape mode screen, the driver will likely prefer portrait mode.

The BYD DOLPHIN is available in France in two different trims, Comfort and Design, priced at €33,990 and €35,990 respectively. It’s far from the sub-€20,000 cars—a major goal for 2024—but with such rich features, it’s understandable.
