Fastned transforms its charging areas into service stations

Fastned has opened its very first store and restaurant. Charging stations are no longer to be envied by gas pumps.

The opening of the first store marks a new step in the development of Fastned aimed at making the charging experience more pleasant. It is located at the Fastned rapid charging station on the E19 between Antwerp and Breda, near Brecht in Belgium. The opening of this first store and restaurant represents an important milestone towards the “future highway rest areas”: fully equipped highway parking lots for electric drivers, without fossil fuel supply. The site itself aims to be environmentally friendly, using sustainable building materials like wood. The building is energy-efficient and partially generates its own energy through a heat pump and solar panels.

100% Electric Stations

The electric transition has changed drivers’ habits, resulting in longer stops. It’s not just about recharging the car as quickly and conveniently as possible, but also taking the chance to recharge their own batteries. The shop offers visitors a moment of relaxation on comfortable lounge sofas where they can enjoy a coffee, use the restrooms, or order a fresh meal at the restaurant while their vehicle is charging.

It is well known that highway stations generate more revenue from services than from fuel sales alone. This cash flow is not shared equally with electricity providers, who nevertheless offer a strong attractant. The time for emancipation thus seems to have arrived.
