Two pre-production prototypes of Mercedes’ battery-electric long-haul truck are embarking on a tour across more than 20 European countries.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks has scheduled an exciting program of revisions this summer for its new electric flagship, the eActros 600. The objective is to send two prototypes on a journey through 20 European countries, each covering more than 13,000 kilometers with a total towing weight of 40 tons. Mercedes is thus aiming to gain extensive experience across a wide range of routes in different topographies and climatic zones, taking energy consumption into account. The manufacturer intends to share these results with interested customers. Furthermore, Mercedes hopes to use this tour to prove that the eActros 600 can perform long-distance transnational transport in Europe using only battery-electric propulsion.
Mercedes wants a “real-life” test!
The aim is, for example, to recharge the batteries exclusively at public charging stations. Even though establishing a flawless public charging infrastructure for trucks is still imperative for the continued growth of the electric truck market, the journey dubbed the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024” aims to send a positive signal to all parties involved. The large battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt-hours and a particularly efficient new electric axle – eAxle – developed in-house, enable the eActros 600 to achieve a range of 500 kilometers without intermediate charging.
The European testing tour of the eActros 600 is set to begin in Frankfurt am Main on June 11. Unofficially, the tour will start the day before at the site of Wörth am Rhein and at the headquarters of Daimler Truck AG in Leinfelden-Echterdingen.
Last year, Mercedes-Benz Trucks already conducted a tour across Europe with the eActros 300/400. Three e-trucks each traveled over 5,000 kilometers through Germany, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium. In total, Mercedes organized 14 customer events with over 1,500 guests and 1,250 test drives.
