BYD Shark, the Long-Toothed Pickup

Chinese automaker BYD has unveiled the Shark, its new pickup, and it doesn’t lack bite!

BYD has released the first images of its Shark pickup designed to challenge not only Tesla but especially Ford, GM, and Rivian! A model inspired by the United States but intended to play more in Middle Eastern sands than on American highways.

The only certainty is that BYD has chosen a very classic stylistic approach for the Shark, far from the distinctive lines of the Cybertruck. Being polarizing is rarely a favorite choice among Chinese manufacturers. No futuristic bodywork, no hidden handles, no oversized wheels,… just a sturdy pickup. We can especially imagine that BYD has global ambitions and not just local ones. This is not the case for Tesla’s monster, which is unlikely to be approved in certain markets such as France due to its features. The presentation video also states that the Shark will be offered in a hybrid version, even though everyone was expecting a 100% electric model. Still a rational choice.

But should we imagine that BYD will go and challenge Tesla on American soil? The United States certainly has a fondness for pickups, but many countries in Asia and the Middle East do as well, where the Shark will be a hit.
