J.D. Power: Tesla Customer Satisfaction Plummets

The highly anticipated annual customer satisfaction study from J.D. Power has been released, and it won’t please Tesla, which has dropped in the rankings.

There are studies whose arrival is dreaded by manufacturers in the United States. The one from J.D. Power is among them, one that is celebrated or used to make cuts depending on the results.

Indeed, the J.D. Power customer satisfaction study is a barometer for a manufacturer’s reliability and desirability. Insurers, banks, used cars, everything converges towards this index. And the brand that will be most unhappy is definitely Tesla, 1st in 2023, and now 9th! To add insult to injury, the top manufacturer is the sworn enemy of Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk: Rivian!

J.D. Power specifies that its surveys rely on 37 very precise parameters such as reliability, but also the quality of materials onboard, driving experience, infotainment, etc. The study lasted from April 2023 to February 2024.

The Revenge of the Europeans?

In the end, this J.D. Power study reveals that the competition has significantly raised the bar compared to Tesla. The Californian manufacturer set the standard, but failed to maintain its leadership position. Rivian, Porsche, and generally European manufacturers have revitalized their efforts and regained their appeal. Perhaps also because Teslas are becoming too common across the Atlantic and the charging network is now open to competition?

While very affordable, Teslas are starting to suffer due to the poor quality of some of their interior materials, as well as the numerous electronic bugs linked to recent updates, and certain simple technological shortcomings like automatic parking, reliable parking sensors, effective automatic wipers, etc.

The grace period for Tesla has passed; the hardest part is just beginning.
