The Mini Electric / Cooper SE
After multiple prototypes, starting in 2009, the brand ventured into the world of electric cars in 2019 with the Cooper SE, also known as the Mini Electric. It is based on the classic 3-door body style measuring 3.80 meters, with a few rare differences compared to the thermal variants. It features a lively motor of 135 kW (180 hp), but its battery has a low capacity. At just 32 kWh, it can offer a range of no more than 230 km per charge. Its price also matches its claims of being a chic city car, starting above €35,000.

Future Electric Minis
Following the classic Minis, zero-emission models will follow, aiming to transform the brand into 100% electric by 2030.
The brand showcased a prototype of the convertible version of the Cooper SE and even a sporty JCW version. However, it will be the SUVs that will lead the development of the electric range. The electric Mini Countryman is set to arrive with the second generation of the model by the end of 2023.
The Aceman conceptA smaller sibling, the electric Mini Aceman, will join in 2024. Revealed as a concept in 2022, this smaller vehicle is unprecedented. In the meantime, the new generation of Mini Electric is expected to bring improved range in 2023.
Les origines de Mini remontent à 1959, année où le désormais célèbre Alec Issigonis conçoit la petite voiture de 3 mètres de long à quatre places. Elle sort en réalité sous deux versions différentes, la Morris Mini Minor et l’Austin Seven. Boudée au départ, elle innovait face à ses rivales d’alors, les Fiat 500 et Volkswagen Coccinelle, avec un moteur transversal avant, ou de petites roues de 10 pouces. La Mini devient finalement un succès mondial, grâce à des clients stars comme les Beatles ou Brigitte Bardot, ainsi qu’au rallye où la version sportive Cooper s’illustre.

Les voitures MINI modernes
Sous pavillon British Leyland puis Rover via la marque Austin, la Mini devient en partie allemande, car BMW rachète le groupe britannique en 1994. La Mini survit tout de même jusqu’en 2000, où elle à une toute nouvelle génération. La marque MINI (en majuscule pour se différencier), apport un style rétro et une montée en gamme. Surtout, ses dimensions n’ont plus rien à voir : 3,62 m et +28 cm en largeur, mais toujours en 3 portes et cabriolet.
Le Countryman Cooper SE hybride rechargeable 2022
Mais comme chez BMW, Mini diversifie sa gamme après la seconde génération “R56” de 2007, au-delà des versions essence, diesel ou sport Cooper : un break Clubman, Coupé, Roadster.. Plus vraiment “mini”, un SUV Countryman nait en 2010, suivi d’une variante 2 portes Paceman en 2011. Ce dernier ne survivra pas, ni les Coupé/Roadster. Mais la troisième génération Mini III “F56” de 2014 continue de proposer le Clubman (2015), le Countryman II de 2016 reposant sur une base BMW X1. Le Mini Countryman sera par ailleurs le premier véhicule de la marque à adopter une motorisation hybride rechargeable Cooper SE.
