The young Parisian company specializing in high-visibility clothing, Urban Circus, has just introduced its new tool designed for both pedestrians and joggers, as well as all users of soft mobility, DETECABLE LIGHT.
Since July 2024, the European Union requires all new cars to integrate an automatic emergency braking system that activates when the sensors built into the car detect a danger on the road. Pedestrian, motorcycle, scooter, bicycle, scooter,… any obstacle must be quickly identified and the car must be able to react on its own, without human intervention, to avoid an accident.
But how can we further improve the visibility of these much more vulnerable individuals than a car grille? Urban Circus asked itself this question and, after nearly 18 months of research with Continental, launched DETECTABLE, the first jacket custom-made to make its wearers more easily detectable by the cameras fitted in cars. Thanks to a fabric coated with thousands of micro glass beads, it reflects the light from headlights up to a distance of 300 meters. The best way to protect young and old by leveraging the artificial intelligence technologies developed at great expense by car manufacturers. Simply brilliant. Water-repellent and waterproof, it is breathable and windproof. It features ventilation zips under the arms, a double-opening closure, tightening cords, a visor hood, a chin guard, integrated mittens, and a back pocket. Offered at a price of 265 euros, it remains a significant investment, hence the idea for a “LIGHT” version.
Like its big sister, the DETECTABLE LIGHT is fluorescent, reflective, and ultra-lightweight, weighing only 800g. It ensures optimal safety and is also very versatile as it can be used for running as well. For this purpose, it is not waterproof in favor of increased breathability. Designed for both children and adults to protect the whole family, it comes at a gentle price of 59.90 euros for sizes 6 to 12 years and 69.90 euros for adults. It will be available for pre-order starting August 21 for availability by the end of September.
