Peugeot 3008 Hybrid 136 now available for €35,990

Dealers aren’t wasting any time and are already offering up to 11% off the new Peugeot 3008 Hybrid 136.

Like in love, there are apps to quickly match sellers and buyers of cars. No more getting bogged down with small talk, seduction, or anything else; only the outcome matters: a priced relationship that suits both parties…

It must be said that the internet has forever changed the relationship between the customer and their dealer, as information travels instantly. In just two clicks, you can know the current promotions, but especially the commercial practices and market trends. And when you add to that a dramatic technological paradigm shift between combustion and electric vehicles, as well as a changing relationship to ownership with a rapid rise in leasing rather than buying, frivolity creates chaos.

At Peugeot, they admit to having misjudged the positioning of the new 3008. Heavy and very expensive, it struggles to compete with the Tesla Model Y and other far more affordable Renault Scenics. Therefore, there is no other solution but to begin the risky exercise of discounts after just a few months since its release.

-4500 euros off the bat

To attract interest, the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid 136 has no choice but to position itself below its electric competitors, starting at 35,000 euros. This is far from the hoped-for 40,000 euros once you add one or two options like a metallic paint job or others.

Another issue: Peugeot and the brands in the Stellantis group continue to carry a rather disastrous image of reliability, whether rightly or wrongly. This is the case for the small 1.2-liter 3-cylinder Puretech turbo engine that powers this 3008 Hybrid 136. The problems have largely been resolved, but their shadow continues to follow this engine.

To support factory demand, dealers are forced to order units that, if unsold, begin to sit idle and clutter parking lots. This is the case for this example found by Mobiwisy, whose warranty now only lasts for another 18 months…

The ideal would be, of course, for Peugeot to be motivated to heavily discount the electric version, which is much less burdened by reliability issues. It’s only a matter of time.
