With their new common batteries, the two electric SUVs are technically getting even closer, but the prices are worth considering.
Two badges, one family. Cousin to the Renault Scénic E-Tech, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross electric also benefits from the new batteries developed within the Renault ecosystem. Starting in November 2026, it will offer an LFP battery of 67 kWh and an NMC battery of 89 kWh, paired with a 220 hp motor.
Behind these developments lies an industrial objective: to reduce costs thanks to LFP, while improving charging capabilities. The two cousins announce a charging speed from 15% to 80% in 24 minutes with the small battery and 28 minutes with the large one. Mitsubishi promises up to 472 and 650 km of range, subject to homologation, compared to 467 and 642 km for Renault. These differences are modest.
The price, always the price…
From a financial perspective, the confrontation becomes more interesting. With the 67 kWh, the Eclipse Cross lists a starting price of €41,390, compared to €39,990 for the Scénic Techno. But Mitsubishi offers a discount of €6,600, bringing its SUV down to €34,790 before subsidies. This is €5,200 less than the Renault catalog price, excluding any potential negotiation at the dealership.
However, be cautious of the entry prices: the €29,990 offer from Mitsubishi includes a subsidy of €4,800, while the €31,750 announced by Renault relies on a maximum aid of €8,240. Comparing these amounts alone would skew the competition. The equipment must also be considered: the Scénic Techno includes a heat pump and a powered tailgate, among other features.
The Mitsubishi deserves a quote, especially since it comes with a warranty that can last up to eight years or 160,000 km. But since a choice must be made, without any nationalism, our preference still leans towards the Renault Scénic. Its design seems less convoluted, and its interior more refined. We would also bet on a better resale value, thanks to its reputation. It’s up to everyone to decide how much extra they are willing to pay for this preference.
