A Formula 1 Driver Behind the Wheel of a Lego McLaren!
Lego and McLaren have accomplished a totally crazy feat by recreating a one-of-a-kind McLaren P1 out of Lego bricks.
This life-size replica of the McLaren P1 is made from 342,817 Lego Technic elements and weighs 1,220 kg. The car has a fully functional steering system, making it the first full-scale Lego car that can be driven. It features an electric motor made up of Lego Technic Function elements and an electric car battery.

23 specialists from the Lego group and McLaren Automotive were involved in this project, which took no less than 8,344 hours of development and construction. Once the car was assembled, all that was left was to make it drive, and since it’s a replica of a McLaren supercar, who better to take the wheel than McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris? As you can guess, this car is not road-legal, and a suitable playground needed to be found for the event. The British driver tackled the 5.891 km of the Silverstone Formula 1 circuit. You could say it’s a perfect setting for a track debut!
No time has been reported, but video evidence confirms that the challenge was indeed met, as the astonishing vehicle managed to complete a lap without its structure falling apart. Granted, it was at low speed, but the achievement is more than commendable.
This unique car will, of course, never be sold commercially. However, if you feel like playing like Lando, you can still purchase the 1:8 scale model that inspired this extraordinary P1 for the modest sum of 449.99 euros. Be warned, the model contains 3,893 pieces!
