Good formula or last chance for the Volkswagen ID. Buzz?

Volkswagen ID. Buzz long

Volkswagen finally launches an ID. Buzz Pro with a long wheelbase and 7 seats, offering an extended range of 487 km.

When we see the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, we imagine going on an adventure with family. However, with only 5 seats and a ridiculous range, the van has so far been confined to a niche that offered very few usage prospects. Worse still, we even got a sporty version! The German brand seems to have finally realized this casting error and is launching a version that aligns more with what one might expect from a vehicle for private use, but is it already too late?

Volkswagen expands and upgrades the range of variants of its electric Combi. The new long-wheelbase ID. Buzz Pro, equipped with a new 86 kW battery and a new powertrain developing 210 kW (286 hp), is now available in the catalog. This new LWB variant measures 4,962 mm in length. The increase in length is achieved through an extension of the wheelbase from 2,989 to 3,239 mm. On the sides, the additional 250 mm is distributed between the rear side doors, which are 192 mm wider, and the 58 mm widening of the space between the rear pillars and the wheels. The long-wheelbase ID. Buzz Pro thus offers, and finally provides, a spacious interior that can accommodate up to seven passengers or carry bikes or surfboards. Why wasn’t this thought of from the start, followed by smaller and less powerful versions to reduce the price? A mystery…

Even more frustrating, this significantly more practical version does not suffer from a prohibitive price increase. It starts at the Volkswagen online configurator from 58,400 euros compared to 52,850 euros for the 5-seater version. From there to finally put it on the right launch pad…
