The City of Paris Invents New Traffic Restrictions

Starting from November 5, 2024, motorized vehicles will no longer be allowed to circulate freely in the heart of Paris

The process to make the city of Paris more ecological and pleasant is underway. This time, it’s not a new speed limit like the one on the Paris ring road, but rather an entire zone where traffic will be affected. And this concerns districts 1 to 4, the Paris City Center sector. From Quai du Louvre to Place de la République, from the Paris Opera to Place de la Bastille.

It is now prohibited to circulate in these areas without a specific purpose. But while traffic is increasingly restricted for motorized vehicles in Paris, it must be acknowledged that these rules are not so burdensome.

Driving in the zone without justification could cost you a lot

The City of Paris aims to ban transit traffic within Paris. For example, it considers a user who wants to travel from the 14th to the 18th arrondissement by car. In this case, it would be impossible for them to reach this area via Paris Center. However, going to the cinema, a restaurant, or a medical appointment within this zone remains possible by car. Not to mention the residents or workers in this area.

During the first six months of the new regulations, bypassing the rules will not result in ticketing. It will only be in spring 2025 that controls will be implemented. From that moment, a motorist caught in the act of unauthorized circulation will face a 4th class fine, amounting to 135 euros.
