The flat-rate ticket for metro and RER has been approved

Starting January 1, 2025, a single fare will be applied for transportation tickets throughout Île-de-France

On Tuesday, November 12, the board of Île-de-France Mobilités voted. The suspense was minimal, but it is now official. The single fare of €2.50 comes into effect. This applies to RER and metro trips. For buses and trams, the fare will now be €1.99.

Good news for suburban residents who often travel to Paris and vice versa. Not only could ticket prices quickly exceed €10 for a round trip, but the fare structure could also be very complicated to understand. Now, if you do not go to the airport, it’s simple. €2.50 for a metro/RER journey and €1.99 for a “surface transportation” trip. “A major simplification compared to the current 50,000 fare combinations,” affirms IDFM.

For Navigo pass holders, these reforms have no effect. However, an important change to note is the end of booklets of 10 tickets, including those digital ones on the Navigo Easy pass. IDFM wants to encourage Parisians and residents to use the Navigo Liberté+ pass.

The Liberté+ Revolution

With this pass, users pay at the end of the month for trips made during the previous month, so no more recharging the pass. On this pass, trips that used to cost €1.73 will now cost €1.99 on the metro and RER, but €1.60 on buses and trams. Its use also facilitates transfers between modes of transportation, such as switching from a metro to a bus. In this case, the cheapest ticket price is not counted.

Valérie Pécresse, the regional president, highly praised the use of the Liberté+ pass. She stated that the price of certain trips will be “halved, or even less than a quarter,” especially for “all those who have complicated, long journeys with many connections.”
