Porsche dives into the water with a new electric model

Cooperation between Porsche and the Austrian shipyard Frauscher continues with a new Macan motorboat.
Porsche’s ambitions are not limited to racing and road cars. In collaboration with the renowned Austrian shipyard Frauscher, the manufacturer has developed an electric boat now available in two different versions. Similar to Porsche’s available in coupe and convertible variants, among others, Frauscher offers a choice between the Runabout and the Air. After the open eFantom, named the best electric boat in November 2024 by the prestigious Best of Boats Award, the closed Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom version is now also available in a limited edition of 25 cabin-equipped units.
The 8.67-meter-long and 2.49-meter-wide electric boats offer impressive performance and luxurious equipment, just like a Porsche Macan, which provides its powertrain to the Fantom. For the transfer of technology from land to water, Porsche deployed the most powerful variant of the fully electric SUV: the rear axle engine of the Macan Turbo. In the boat, the permanent synchronous motor can deliver up to 400 kW. It is located in the hull of the boat and is directly controlled by a Z-drive. The control units are housed in a waterproof box bearing the Porsche logo. The motor’s efficiency is optimized by advanced power electronics, and the use of silicon carbide in the inverter allows for particularly high switching frequencies. The high-voltage battery with a gross capacity of 100 kWh is also derived from the Macan. The cable suspension absorbs the immense shocks that inevitably occur in waves and at high speed.
The 850 Fantom can accommodate up to seven passengers. The rear bathing platform features comfortable sunbathing areas. The F. A. Porsche Studio in Zell am See and Porsche Style in Weissach played a major role in designing the cockpit. There, you will find a steering wheel and seats with the characteristic design of a sports car, including the Porsche crest on the head restraints. Inside the cabin, spacious seats and relaxation areas invite visitors to cool off with air conditioning. As with Porsche sports cars, customization also plays a major role in Frauscher boats. Both the cabin upholstery and the hull and deck can be tailored to personal preferences.
But let’s stop dreaming and get back to solid ground. To cut through the waves in the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom, you need to be prepared to spend €573,000, and of course, this model is not eligible for the Environmental Bonus.
