Tesla recalls all Cybertrucks manufactured to date due to a problem with poorly attached trim.

Tesla has announced the recall of all Cybertrucks produced and delivered in the United States due to an issue with the windshield pillar trim that could detach while driving, posing a potential danger.

A week ago, Tesla discreetly suspended Cybertruck deliveries without explaining the reasons. Suspicion had arose around the aesthetic trim covering the side window pillars. On social media, many owners, more or less amused, had pointed out this flaw from the first models delivered. Tesla has now confirmed that this is indeed the issue.

The recall affects all Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025, totaling 46,000 units. According to Tesla, the trim in question is made of a stainless steel plate fixed with a structural adhesive and fasteners. However, a defect in the adhesive seal can cause delamination of the trim and its detachment from the vehicle.

To address this problem, Tesla plans to replace the defective trim with an improved model featuring reinforced adhesive assembly and a stud welded to the steel plate, ensuring more durable fixation. This fix will be implemented starting March 21, 2025. Additionally, Tesla has confirmed a halt in deliveries until the stock vehicles are corrected.

This is the second recall related to a design issue on the Cybertruck. Earlier, the plate covering the accelerator pedal also required a similar fix, with a screw added to secure it. As an anecdote, Tesla had then offered owners a way to do the modification themselves to avoid a large recall.

As Tesla approaches a year and a half of Cybertruck production, this recall raises questions about the vehicle’s design, especially after the abandonment of the initial exoskeleton promise.
