Tesla’s martingale is in these containers!

Tesla records a major Megapack order. The energy sector is the true financial engine of the group.
Tesla has just secured a strategic order for Megapack energy storage systems from Clearway Energy Inc., amounting to a capacity of 490 MW/1,356 MWh. Valued at $450 million, this order reinforces an existing fleet of 520 MW/1,680 MWh already being installed in Utah and Texas. Once all systems are deployed, Clearway’s storage capacity equipped by Tesla will exceed one gigawatt.
The Megapack 2 XLs for this project will be produced at Tesla’s dedicated factory in Lathrop, California, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2026. They will support energy projects in California and Colorado, where storage plays a central role in grid stability and the integration of renewable energies. Batteries indeed allow for the storage of excess electricity produced during off-peak times, to be released during peak demand.
“Energy storage is essential for the security, reliability, and accessibility of the national grid,” said Frances Cook, Vice President of Purchasing at Clearway, praising a partnership with Tesla based on equipment made in the United States.
This contract is part of an initiative undertaken by Clearway, which had already announced a 320 MW project in March 2025 spread across four sites in Utah, also based on Tesla’s Megapacks.
Though less publicized than its automotive branch, Tesla’s energy business is experiencing rapid growth. Demand for its large-scale storage solutions continues to rise, prompting the company to invest heavily in this sector. Tesla now operates two Gigafactories — in California and China — each capable of producing 10,000 Megapacks per year, and plans to open a third factory in Houston soon.
Thus, it is in energy, even more than in automotive, that Tesla is today solidifying its strongest financial results.
