XPENG Casts a Shadow Over Tesla with Its Ultra-Fast Charging

Following the announcements regarding its deployment in France, XPENG gives us more information about its new 5C batteries and 800V platform.

With the launch of the new XPENG G6 and G9 in France, the Chinese manufacturer sets a new benchmark in the electric vehicle market regarding charging. Both models now benefit from next-generation 800V technology combined with an ultra-performance 5C battery, a combination that allows unprecedented power levels.

Concrete result: a charge from 10 to 80% in just 12 minutes, making it one of the fastest charging speeds currently offered on the automotive market. The XPENG G9 can handle up to 525 kW of charging power, while the G6 reaches 451 kW, figures that greatly surpass those of many European and Asian competitors.

XPENG aims to impress… quickly!

This performance is made possible by the integration of a 5C LFP battery across all versions, a world first. Unlike traditional NCM batteries, this battery uses Lithium-Iron-Phosphate chemistry, which is more stable, less polluting, and free of cobalt or nickel. In addition to its durability and safety, this 5C technology allows for a current absorption capacity five times faster than a standard battery, without overheating or loss of efficiency.

The 800V silicon carbide (SiC) platform also optimizes energy efficiency by reducing conversion losses and lowering electrical resistance, which improves charging speed while limiting component heating.

This technical advancement is particularly strategic for the European market, where the rapid charging infrastructure is developing quickly. The XPENG G6 and G9 are thus designed to fully exploit ultra-fast charging stations, significantly reducing downtime during long journeys.

With this new generation of batteries and electric platform, XPENG positions itself as a pioneer in high-performance charging, providing concrete solutions to the challenges of charging time, durability, and energy efficiency.
