Volkswagen ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE: Its price will make you laugh or cry
This page is translated from the original post "Volkswagen ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE : son prix vous fera rire ou pleurer" in French.

Volkswagen brings an icon from the 1990s back to life. Inspired by the Golf II, the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE becomes a limited series reality.
One year after being unveiled as a concept, the show car ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE enters production. Volkswagen announces the launch of this special edition as a direct tribute to the famous Golf Fire and Ice from 1990. Developed in collaboration with the high-end sportswear brand BOGNER FIRE+ICE, this ID.3 of a new kind will be limited to just 1990 units, a nod to the year of the original model’s release. In France, its price starts at 52,690 euros. And don’t count on any CEE bonus (formerly the ecological bonus).
For comparison, the entry-level Volkswagen ID.3 GTX, with 286 horsepower (210 kW), is priced from 46,990 euros and is therefore eligible for environmental aids. As for the GTX Performance version (326 hp or 240 kW), it climbs to 47,990 euros. A moderate increase of 1,000 euros for an extra 40 horsepower.

An electric nod to a 90s star
Reinterpreted based on the electric compact ID.3 GTX, this FIRE+ICE stands out as much for its performance as for its bold style. The Ultra Violet Metallic paint, a nod to the purple hue of the Golf Fire and Ice, is combined with striking red details, like the 20-inch Locarno wheels with red GTX center caps, and the roof strip in Flaming Red anodized finish. The Fire and Ice logo from the 90s even makes a return on the rear spoiler.

Under the hood, two motorizations are offered: 210 kW (286 hp) or 240 kW (326 hp), both being rear-wheel drives powered by a 79 kWh battery. In France, only the 326-horsepower version is available. The maximum torque reaches 545 Nm, allowing the most powerful version to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, with a top speed of 200 km/h. The WLTP range can reach 591 km, and fast charging at 185 kW allows for charging from 10 to 80% in just 26 minutes.
On the take-away side, it is worth noting that the heat pump, which would help gain even more range, is priced at 1,150 euros. At this price level, applause is not forthcoming.
A contrasting interior, between fire and ice
Inside, the ambiance plays on contrasts: on the driver’s side, the red “On Fire” dominates, while the passenger side is adorned with a “Keep Cool” blue. The sport seats in leather reflect the aesthetic of BOGNER puffy jackets, featuring colorful stitching, faux zippers and a central FIRE+ICE logo. The interior is also equipped with specific floor mats, contrasting embroidery, and light displays on the floor projecting the “fire” and “ice” elements upon door openings.
The ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE is fully loaded with features. It includes notably:
• the “Interior Plus” package with massaging sport seats, augmented reality head-up display, and Harman Kardon audio system,
• the “Comfort” package with dual-zone climate control and navigation,
• the “Assistance” package with Park Assist Plus, rearview camera, keyless access, and adaptive cruise control,
• as well as a sport chassis as standard (adaptive DCC on the 240 kW version).

This limited edition marks the return of an iconic partnership between Volkswagen and BOGNER. “This project demonstrates the power of collaboration between fashion and mobility,” emphasizes Daniel Hiendlmeier, managing director of BOGNER. “What was once just a show car has become a reality that will delight both fans of the Golf II Fire and Ice and a new generation of drivers.”
It remains to be seen whether this sort of new electric Golf GTi will ignite passion.
