Tesla Model X

Tesla has just added two Standard Range versions of its Model S and X to the US market with prices $10,000 lower.

Tesla Model S and X are no longer selling very well, so it’s necessary to lower the prices by all means. Here are two “Standard Range” (SR) versions reappearing in the company’s American lineup. A game of deception and semantics, as the “standard range” versions were the classic Model S and X… Both body styles see their prices drop by exactly $10,000 (about 9,200 euros), with the only real consequence being a limitation on range:

Here, the range compared to the “normal” version decreases by 85 miles (137 kilometers) to 320 miles (515 km). The top speed remains unchanged at 149 mph (240 km/h), but acceleration is only slightly worse: 0 to 96 km/h in 3.7 seconds versus 3.1 seconds.

The only color offered as standard is Pearl White Multi-Coat and the interior upholstery is black. As for options, they are identical: Yoke steering wheel priced at $250, 21″ wheels at $4,500, Autopilot, etc.

Range also decreases here, but to a lesser extent: by 79 miles (127 kilometers) to 269 miles (432 km). The top speed is similar to that of the Model S Standard Range, with adjusted acceleration: 0 to 96 km/h in 4.4 seconds versus 3.8 seconds.

Unlike the Model S, the Model X retains its 20″ alloy wheels, but it is also presented with Pearl White Multi-Coat paint and black interior as standard.

The most amusing aspect is that the Tesla Model S Standard Range (or Low Range) really makes sense… compared to the “normal” Model X. Because now, for $20,000 (about €18,300) less, it offers exactly the same features thanks to a more pertinent mass and aerodynamics.

It remains to be seen whether these more affordable, but less autonomous, versions will cross the Atlantic. Chances are high.
