XPENG presents its autonomous driving technology at the UN
The Chinese manufacturer XPENG presented its artificial intelligence-assisted driving system at the UN.
The Chinese manufacturer XPENG showcased its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) based on artificial intelligence during an international session held in Shanghai as part of the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29). This strategic event brings together regulators, technical experts, and industry representatives to develop harmonized rules for automated driving systems (ADS).
The demonstration took place during the meeting of the informal working group on automated driving systems (IWG ADS). For the first time, this international meeting dedicated to the regulation of autonomous vehicles was held in person in China.
Autonomous driving, a major issue
XPENG, which has been involved since 2023 in technical discussions on driver assistance systems, was the only emerging Chinese manufacturer to offer real-world road trials. Delegates from Canada, the European Union, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States took a seat in vehicles equipped with the XNGP system.
The demonstrations covered complex urban scenarios and highway trips. Participants were able to observe real-time perception capabilities, automated decision-making, and dynamic vehicle control. Integrated safety devices, such as driver attention monitoring and human-machine interface, were also presented.
