Yamaha EMF: a second swapable battery scooter similar to Gogoro
This page is translated from the original post "Yamaha EMF : un second scooter à batterie échangeable Gogoro" in French.

Partnered with Gogoro, Japanese Yamaha launches its second electric scooter model, the EMF, in Taiwan, featuring interchangeable batteries.
Scooters are shifting towards electric, but Yamaha still resists the trend. At least in France, because the landscape is changing in Taiwan, where the manufacturer is doubling its offerings.
Yamaha Differentiates Itself from Gogoro
A pillar of the two-wheeled industry, the historic brand has established a partnership with the newcomer, which is no longer really small. Gogoro has overtaken the local scooter market with its Series and Viva lines. The alliance between the two has already produced the EC-05 in 2019, launched only on the Asian island.
The second scooter unveiled this week is the EMF. Unlike the close-to-Gogoro 3 Series EC-05, it stands out with a unique style. No flat floorboard (but a storage space), bold lines, protruding LED front headlights—far from its round and chubby partner’s design.

However, it mimics the 10-inch wheels of the Viva, equipped with 200 mm disc brakes with four-piston calipers at the front (single at the rear). The manufacturer claims to have designed the chassis themselves, explaining the numerous differences.
Currently Reserved for Taiwan
In addition to being fully electric, this scooter features the interchangeable battery system, Gogoro’s specialty. The scooter will therefore be compatible with the 2,200 GoStation stations to recharge in a few seconds. The two batteries onboard weigh 21 kilograms, bringing the total weight to 114 kg. However, there is no data regarding energy capacity or efficiency. This model is expected to have about 100 km of range.
Under its futuristic appearance, the EMF features the same permanent magnet synchronous motor as the EC-05. It develops 7.6 kW (10.3 hp) and 26 Nm of torque, enabling it to reach 50 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
For now, Yamaha is reserving the EMF for the Taiwanese market. The brand sells it for 102,800 New Taiwan dollars, roughly €3,280. However, it could be exported to other markets under Gogoro’s influence and international ambitions, starting with India.
