Rieju E-City

Rieju is stepping into the market of small electric scooters with removable batteries.

Known for its combustion engine motorcycles, Rieju is beginning to develop a genuine electric lineup. After launching the 125 Nuuk Urban 6, a strange two-wheeler halfway between a motorcycle and a moped, the Spanish company adds the E-City to its catalog, an electric scooter offered in 50 and 125 cc versions.

This model is powered by a Bosch motor directly integrated into the rear wheel. In its 50 cc configuration, it delivers 1.2 kW (1.9 kW peak) and has a removable 1.56 kWh battery, which guarantees a theoretical range of 70 km in Eco mode. A second battery is available as an option. In compliance with legislation, the maximum speed is limited to 45 km/h.

The E-City 125 cc comes with two removable 2.1 kWh batteries, offering a theoretical range of 160 km at an average of 40 km/h. The motor power increases to 3 kW (4.75 kW peak), which remains modest for a scooter in this category. The top speed reaches up to 75 km/h.

Each removable battery weighs about twelve kilos and can be charged in six hours using a standard household socket. Rieju also promises fast charging in 3.5 hours, with no further details provided.

As noted by dealer Go2roues, the Rieju E-City strangely resembles a Chinese scooter already on the market for some time (the Lifan E4). It appears that this is not a truly new model.

Whether chosen as a 50 or 125 cc equivalent, the scooter features 12-inch wheels and disc brakes. A monochrome LCD display and LED headlights are included as standard equipment.

The Rieju E-City costs €3,299 in the 50 cc version. With the second battery, the price rises to €4,019. The 125 cc version is sold for €5,519. The national bonus amounts to €100 for the 50 cc and €900 for the 125 cc.
