Electric Scooter: Zeway arrives in Bordeaux and Nice

Meanwhile, Zeway also plans to expand its network of battery exchange stations in Paris.

After securing a funding round of €26.75 million, Zeway is entering a new development phase and announces its arrival in Nice and Bordeaux. The French startup, which had focused on Paris so far, will start operations in these two cities later this year. It may later establish itself in other metropolitan areas.

Instead of selling its scooters, Zeway rents them out for varying durations. Customers have access to a network of battery stations deployed by the company. They can exchange an empty battery for a full one in just a few seconds. This type of service, proven effective in certain Asian countries, is currently unique in France.

Zeway’s product range includes both 50cc and 125cc models. Recently, a new three-wheeled model has been added to the lineup. Prices vary significantly from one scooter to another. The choice of plan (with or without commitment) also impacts the rental fee, which starts at €130/month for the basic model.

In Paris, Zeway has around 1,000 customers and handles over 4,500 swaps per week. About forty battery exchange stations are spread across the capital and nearby suburbs. There should be twice as many by the end of the year.

Zeway aims to become the king of swapping in Europe

The arrival of new investments will also enable the company to pursue another project: opening its charging infrastructure to other light electric vehicle manufacturers. Zeway’s batteries could, for example, be used on motorized electric trailers used by certain bike rental services. Zeway intends to leverage this new activity to “become the European leader in instant urban electric mobility charging.”
