Electric 50cc scooter market: Ligier leads, Niu in fourth place

Ligier achieves this performance with a professional-targeted scooter: the Pulse three-wheel.

8,606: that’s the number of equivalent 50 cc electric scooters registered in France in the first half of 2022, according to data collected by AAA Data.

With 1,557 registrations, Ligier leads the manufacturer rankings, ahead of Askoll and Pink (with 728 and 638 units respectively). Although sales by channel are not disclosed, it can be assumed that B2B clients accounted for the majority of these three brands’ volumes. Ligier holds contracts with La Poste, which places significant orders for the Pulse three-wheel (the only scooter from the manufacturer). Meanwhile, Askoll supplies the ES2 scooters used by operator Cooltra, while Pink and its Pinkstyle are chosen by operator Yugo.

Niu Close to the Podium

Niu ranks fourth, with 466 units registered in the first half. The Chinese manufacturer’s best seller is the N-Lite, which alone accounts for 50% of sales. Fifth place is held by Sakura (388 units), another Chinese manufacturer selling low-cost electric scooters on Alibaba.

The French company Red E, which just raised €850,000, sold 24 scooters during the first six months. After outsourcing production to China, this manufacturer is currently relocalizing its industrial activities in France.

Data from AAA Data also shows that the Vespa Elletrica equivalent 50 cc has had a rather discreet career in France (selling 6 units), likely due to its very high price for this category of scooter. More aligned with market expectations, the Piaggio 1 performs much better, with 318 units registered in the first half.

A final note on Peugeot’s figures, which ended the semester with a total of 83 registrations. The manufacturer’s offering currently consists of a single model produced in India, the e-Ludix.
