Zero and Its Motorcycle Project with a Hole

The electric motorcycle manufacturer Zero has a new partner known for its futuristic electric motorcycle capable of reaching 400 km/h.

White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC), the company behind the British land speed record program, has collaborated with Zero Motorcycles to showcase the world’s first large-scale production electric sports motorcycle to incorporate a patented intelligent aerodynamic duct that potentially reduces aerodynamic drag by 10%.

The Zero SR/S concept integrates an aerodynamic duct that runs directly through the center of the motorcycle, channeling air from behind the front wheel up to above the rear wheel. To improve airflow through the duct, the team also designed a new front wing aerodynamic assembly and fork fairing, ensuring maximum airflow through the system.

A motorcycle, or any moving vehicle, presents a front surface that encounters the air. Just like the wind pushing against you, air will slow down any moving object. WNC and Zero started from the premise that reducing the exposed frontal area would have an effect on resistance and thus on energy consumption. Less energy needed means less energy spent. Simple as that. But this revolution could only happen thanks to electric technology, which allows motors to be placed at various points of the vehicle, even inside the wheels. It is a perfect illustration that an electric vehicle does not have to look like a thermal vehicle. This is the case here for a motorcycle, but it applies to all types of vehicles, regardless of their number of wheels or wings.
