Arrivederci Energica

There will be no miracle for the valiant Italian-American company Energica, which is closing its doors.

Like Zero, Energica Motor Company was a pioneer in the electric motorcycle market. Founded in 2014 in Modena, the brand entered a new era in 2022 with its acquisition by the American company Ideanomics. However, a positioning that was too high-end for a still-unknown brand ultimately thwarted its ambitions. Thus, this marks the end of a decade of hope.

Energica’s motorcycles were aimed at sports enthusiasts, with some models capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3 seconds and others promising an astounding range of over 400 km thanks to a 21.3 kWh battery. Naturally, the prices also reached new heights, with some models costing over €40,000.

It is always sad to see a player in new mobility exit the stage quietly, especially when it is a brand as dynamic and prolific in terms of proposed technologies and designs as Energica. But to last, one must establish a name and a reputation, which is easier when you have a century of history like Honda or when you are called Livewire and are a subsidiary of Harley Davidson.

However, you still have a small chance of seeing Energica motorcycles in France. The Soliera-based manufacturer has indeed won a call for tenders launched by the French administration, which in November 2022 requested the supply of two-wheeled electric vehicles for the Police and Gendarmerie. While the complete market will certainly not be honored, some models, including those that participated in the various stages of the call for tenders, are already in circulation.
