There won’t be many, but some users of motorized two-wheelers will escape paid parking in Paris.

Despite the implementation of paid parking starting September 1st, some motorcycle or scooter users will continue to benefit from free parking. However, they will not be many, and for many of them, it is not guaranteed that this privilege will last indefinitely.

Electric scooters and motorcycles: the only escape route for individuals

For individuals, there is only one exemption, and it concerns electric two-wheelers. The exemption is granted to all electric motorcycles and scooters, regardless of the model and date of first registration. But to benefit from it, you must submit a parking rights request on this site. The free parking, or “Low Emission Vehicle Offer” according to the city’s terminology, will then be automatically granted for a renewable one-year period. Note that it is not restricted to Parisian residents only.

Please be aware that the constraints do not disappear entirely with the free parking. Even after obtaining this right, a user of an electric two-wheeler will need to take a free virtual ticket via an app. Its maximum validity is 20 hours.

A person living in Paris can still keep the same ticket for 7 days if the vehicle is parked in the “residents” zone linked to their home (to find yours, click on this link).

Free parking also for some professionals

The Paris city hall also offers special packages for professionals, but almost all remain paid. Only the category of professionals providing home care services is entitled to free parking. This includes “doctors, massage therapists, nurses, midwives, speech therapists (independent or employed by an association or public health institution), pedicurists/podiatrists, and rehabilitation professionals working in Paris and performing more than 100 home visits per year in Paris”.

Other professionals eligible for a special regime will still need to pay at least an annual parking fee. In most cases, they will also need to purchase a cheaper virtual paid ticket (but less expensive than a standard ticket) when parking their vehicle during the day. To find out which professions are eligible, visit this link.

Of course, a professional using an electric scooter or motorcycle will also benefit from free parking, regardless of their profession. They should go to this link to make their request.
