The Troopy scooter rental service will host Yamaha’s new electric models equivalent to 125cc and 50cc starting September 2022.

As an alternative to small, self-service electric scooter rental services, Troopy targets residents outside Paris in the Île-de-France region who wish to cover longer distances. But the company, founded in 2018, is expanding its offerings in the capital and going electric.

Yamaha’s electric scooters join Troopy

You might recognize the scooters — of course, they are part of Yamaha’s electric innovations showcased at the “Switch On” event held in February. The Japanese manufacturer revealed its intentions for Europe, including electric bikes.

Here, Troopy has incorporated two of Yamaha’s new models into its fleet. Last November, the French company already announced a shift towards 100% electric, without specifying the models. Since the current scooter was a Yamaha Tricity 125, there was little doubt about the nature of the new models.

Electric scooters available in September

For the larger 125cc equivalent scooter, it’s the Yamaha E01. Yamaha Europe CEO, Eric de Seynes, mentioned it would only be available in shared vehicle fleets.

Troopy reports that this electric scooter delivers 8.1 kW and can reach speeds up to 90 km/h, despite weighing 158 kg. Its lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 4.9 kWh, sufficient for a range of 100 km. Three rental options will be offered: round trip (return to starting point), e-hub (stations), or corporate sharing.

The second electric scooter, equivalent to 50cc, is the Yamaha Neo’s. Limited to 45 km/h, it consumes only 31 Wh/km, enough for about 70 km per charge. Its two batteries’ capacity is not specified, but the vehicle weighs 98 kg overall. This “Troopy 50” will be available only in Paris in September 2022 for flexible, self-service rental. It will compete with Cityscoot, Cooltra, and Yego.

Both will have the same rental equipment. They will include a fairing, a top case, 2 helmets, and a smartphone mount. As for the price, it is still to be determined. For reference, the current Troopy three-wheeled gasoline scooter costs €0.33/min with 40 km included ( €0.30/km beyond).
