Véligo Essai Mobiwisy 2022 vélo

The Île-de-France electric bike rental service Véligo has reached a milestone of 50,000 users, a success as competitors continue to multiply.

Launched in September 2019, Véligo quickly gained popularity among residents of Île-de-France wanting to switch to cycling. The goal of the service is clear: convert users to electric bikes, to shift towards a less polluting mobility (vs cars), or to supplement public transportation options, simply out of a desire to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.

Doubling of subscriptions in 1 year

Véligo thus surpassed 50,000 subscribers in May 2022. This number doubled in just one year, after reaching 25,000 subscriptions at the end of April 2021, and 10,000 in May 2020.

The fleet of electric assist bikes in Île-de-France now counts 20,550 cycles. Most are the classic e-bike tested by Mobiwisy, along with three other models. Last year, the service expanded its offering to include 200 cargo bikes (two-wheel cargo), 150 tricycles (three wheels), and 200 longtail bikes.

The principle remains the same as in 2019. The subscription is for a fixed 6 months, with the option to renew for up to 3 additional months. The price remains very attractive and unchanged: €40 per month for the standard e-bike. Moreover, employer subsidy reduces the cost by 50%. For other cargo bikes,

A success for Véligo despite competition

At its launch, many people doubted the necessity of the Véligo service. But, as you can see, the success is such that several companies are trying to join the market. Among them is the large Dutch company Swapfiets, with electric bikes starting at €60 per month, but less restrictive (minimum 3 months, then no commitment).

Starting at €49/month, could Dance’s e-bikes overshadow Véligo?

Then, subscription services without commitment began, such as Red-Will at €75 per month (currently €83). Their catalog has since added a cargo bike and a Connect 500 this spring.

In 2022, two new players aim to take a share of the market. With their more modern-looking bikes, the Dance offer plans with or without commitment starting at €49/month. At Motto, another electric bike rental service in Paris inspired clearly by Vanmoof, prices start at €75/month.
