The Kia PV5 cargo sets a world record for range for an electric commercial vehicle at 693.38 km on a single charge.
The Kia PV5 Cargo, the brand’s first 100% electric light commercial vehicle (LCV), has been listed in the Guinness World Records for the greatest distance traveled by an electric LCV on a single charge and at maximum load capacity. The model covered 693.38 kilometers under these conditions, establishing a new benchmark for range and efficiency.
The version used for this record was a PV5 Cargo Long Range model with two side sliding doors, equipped with a 71.2 kWh battery and transporting 665 kg, which is the maximum permissible load for this model. The test took place on September 30, 2025, on public roads north of Frankfurt, Germany. The route, 58.2 kilometers long, combined urban and extra-urban areas, with traffic lights, intersections, and roundabouts, as well as an elevation gain of about 370 meters per lap. The vehicle completed 12 consecutive laps, totaling 22 hours and 30 minutes of continuous driving at an average speed of 30.8 km/h, which is quite realistic for a utility vehicle.
The record was achieved by Christopher Nigemeier, senior engineer at Hyundai Motor Europe’s technical center, and George Barrow, a journalist specialized in commercial vehicles. Inspectors from TÜV Hessen and buck Vermessung verified compliance with weight and loading characteristics. The route was continuously recorded using GPS and onboard cameras.
The PV5 Cargo is the first member of Kia’s PBV range, based on the E-GMP.S modular architecture. It offers up to 4.4 m³ of cargo volume and a maximum payload capacity of up to 790 kg, depending on the configuration. Two battery sizes are available, 51.5 kWh or 71.2 kWh, to suit professional needs.
