Driving license for 400 euros: how does Cours2conduite do it?

The driving license from the online driving school Cours2conduite is so inexpensive that it is now sold as a gift box in discount supermarkets!

Online driving schools are not new, and among them, Cours2conduite is not new either. However, supermarkets selling “driving license boxes” just like they sell “parachute jump” or “gourmet restaurant” gift sets is unheard of.

Cours2conduite has indeed put driving license boxes on sale in the shelves of two first Superco supermarkets, a franchise of the Carrefour group competing with Aldi or Lidl, in Valenciennes and Onnaing (Nord department). They will soon be available in all Supeco stores in France, currently 8, with about a hundred in the next five years.

The low-cost driving school offers the same packages as on its website:

• 30 euros for online road code (excluding the exam fee at 30 euros)
• 400 euros for the automatic transmission driving license (free exam)
• 600 euros for the manual transmission driving license (free exam)

Partially virtual driving lessons!

To offer such low prices, Cours2conduite has further “digitized” learning compared to its competitors. Learning and practicing for the road code exam is already fully digital, but the driving school has also digitized part of the driving lessons.

Cours2conduite operates on the principle that one loses about 15 minutes per hour of driving in explanations. These explanations are provided in the form of videos to watch before lessons, thus offering 45-minute lessons. They are conducted by independent instructors, as is usual with online driving schools.

The company has therefore transformed 20 hours of driving into 20 “lessons”, divided into 5 hours of online training and 15 hours of practical driving for manual cars or 13 hours for automatic cars. To our knowledge, a minimum of 20 hours of driving is required before taking the exam (free since 2015), so we asked Cours2conduite for clarification on this matter.

If you do not live near a Supeco supermarket, these offers are still available online. However, you must ensure that an instructor is available nearby. For comparison, other competing online driving schools such as Ornikar, En Voiture Simone, Lepermislibre, or Stych charge between 675 and 750 euros for the combo package of code + driving license.
