Svolt, Stellantis Partner, Plans to Build 3 Battery Plants in Europe
This page is translated from the original post "Svolt, partenaire de Stellantis, projette d’installer 3 usines de batteries en Europe" in French.

The Chinese Group Svolt has already established itself in Germany with two factories, and hopes to set up three more to meet the rising demand for electric vehicles across the Old Continent.
Although less known than its compatriot CATL, Svolt is a major player in electric charging. Based in Changzhou, in the Jiangsu province of China, the company currently employs 12,000 people worldwide. An important detail: Svolt has a European subsidiary based in Germany, specifically in Frankfurt am Main.
As we have seen, European battery demand continues to grow. Among the most demanding, we can mention the Stellantis Group, which has initiated a new strategic shift with the Jeep Avenger, as well as the facelifted versions of the Peugeot e-208, e-2008, DS 3…
Partner of BMW, Svolt could therefore find a strategic partnership with Stellantis. Currently, there are two production sites in Europe, and Stellantis has already announced that Svolt will be its supplier in 2025. The goal is to reach 50 GWh per year by 2030, which is quite an ambitious target, especially since the Chinese company is aiming for small-scale factory models (the factory in Thuringia, Germany, would supply 12 GWh). “We are not fans of large factories. Furthermore, water consumption is increasing, which could trigger negative reactions from the public” explains Kai-Uwe Wollenhaupt, CEO of Svolt Europe.
Significant Capacities
As the appetite grows, Svolt is completing a new project in Saarland, a border region of our beautiful country. Here, the capacity would be higher at 24 GWh, enough to equip up to 500,000 cars. This will be followed by another plant specializing in module production, and a further factory with its headquarters in Berlin. In total, five battery manufacturing plants are expected to be operational in the medium term.
