With Nio, battery swapping is easy!

Specialized in electric vehicle development, the Chinese company Nio has just opened its first battery swapping station. The ultimate solution?

Mobiwisy regularly discusses the brand Nio, a Chinese startup turned automobile manufacturer founded in 2014. Unlike some of its competitors, Nio actively works on battery swapping to address charging issues.

“Many users in China may never have access to home chargers, so they choose our vehicles for the battery exchange technology“, said Vice President Shen Fei on March 23 in Shanghai. “Rather than lowering vehicle prices, we prefer to offer users excellent charging service and a great driving experience.”

And actions back up these words. Nio has just announced that it has begun deploying its third-generation battery swapping stations with the goal of reaching 2,300 stations by the end of 2023, which would amount to 24,000 chargers across China.

Specifically, this promising alternative technology would allow up to 408 swaps per day, a 30% increase compared to the previous Nio system. For the customer, it’s almost painless, as the operation now takes only five minutes of waiting. The power of these stations’ chargers is estimated at 62.5 kW, a respectable figure justified by the desire to avoid overloading the grid.

Large compatible vehicles

Note that these third-generation stations are now compatible with cars having a wheelbase between 2.8 meters and 3.3 meters.

In Europe and France, the Nio EC7 should be the flagship of the Chinese manufacturer. This crossover, measuring 4.97 meters in length, is distinguished by its sleek aerodynamics with a CX of 0.23, which is simply excellent. On the technical side, it is powered by two electric motors with a combined output of 653 horsepower, responsible for propelling this promising model.
