How to Check the Battery Status of Your Tesla

Tesla introduces a battery health test in the latest online software update 2025.8.3.

Tesla has launched a highly anticipated feature in its software update 2025.8.3. Now, owners can easily perform a battery health test and measure energy retention directly from the main user interface.

The status of the high-voltage battery is a major concern for many owners, whether new or experienced. This concern often arises when the displayed range in percentage or kilometers diverges from the values announced by Tesla. Although this difference is mainly due to changes in driving habits or environmental conditions, it remains difficult to determine precisely how much the battery has degraded over time.

Until recently, a diagnostic had to be requested at a Tesla workshop or through a third-party service provider. Tesla had introduced a battery health test accessible in Service mode, but its use was not recommended for owners.

Simple, but complicated!

With update 2025.8.3, this test is now accessible from the main interface via Controls > Maintenance > Battery Status. Early users who tested this feature indicate that the vehicle must be connected to a charger and a full charge/discharge cycle must have been completed, taking up to 16 hours to perform the diagnostic! This seems a bit complicated, and we’ve asked for further details which have not yet been provided. We will update this important point later.

This test also offers an additional benefit: it recalibrates the battery management system, allowing for a more accurate estimate of the remaining range. Rest assured, battery energy estimates will now adapt based on usage habits, even without performing the test.
