A battery diagnosis in just 15 minutes!

The German group MAHLE launches in Europe a super-fast diagnostic tool to determine the real condition of an electric vehicle’s battery.

An Italian tire manufacturer often says that without control, power is nothing—a mantra that perfectly applies to the battery of an electric vehicle.

The product developed by MAHLE consists of the E-CHARGE 20 charger and the E-HEALTH app. It provides reliable information on the health status and charge capacity of any high-voltage battery in just a few minutes. The process works independently of the vehicle’s make and model. No prior knowledge is required for the operator thanks to the automated process. Moreover, the device can be used solely as a DC charger in addition to the diagnostic function.

The value of an EV linked to the condition of its battery

Thanks to the diagnostic, mechanics can quickly and easily determine the health of high-voltage batteries with minimal effort. The diagnosis is performed while the vehicle is stationary. The vehicle’s battery is simultaneously charged during this process.

This new solution, developed by the service and spare parts division of the international auto supplier, offers inspection centers, fleet operators, and repair workshops a level of information that allows for assessing the battery’s quality and thus the vehicle’s true value. This makes sense because the most significant cost factor for electric vehicles—historically difficult to evaluate because it is influenced by many external factors—is the lifespan of the high-voltage battery.
