No worries with ZFE? Swap your Twingo for a Ferrari!

Since January 1, 2025, France has strengthened the measures of Low Emission Zones (LEZ), the famous Zones with Low Emissions.

Under the current rules, vehicles classified Crit’Air 3 or lower are excluded from LEZs, including diesel cars registered before 2010 and gasoline cars registered before 2005. A large number of vehicles are now banned from circulation in the affected urban areas.

This regulation applies in urban areas with populations of over 150,000 where pollution levels regularly exceed recommended thresholds. Offenders face fines for non-compliance with the restrictions. Exemptions exist for certain users, including people with disabilities or professionals performing specific activities. For others, there is nothing left but to despair and do not expect support from the government, which has simultaneously reduced financial aid for acquiring less polluting vehicles, such as electric or hybrid cars. Magnificent, so very French!

At Mobiwisy, we are fully in favor of limiting automobile circulation in the city. We are lucky in France to benefit from a good public transportation infrastructure, so we should utilize it as much as possible. However, some decisions like this Crit’Air classification, which is totally stupid, leave us angry and stunned. Politicians definitely lack common sense.

Thus, if you own a first-generation Twingo that emits only 128g of CO2/km and consumes less than 6 liters per 100 km, you can leave it in the garage. On the other hand, a beautiful 2-ton SUV with a well-tuned gasoline engine and catalytic converter from 2011 is fine. Same for a Ferrari FF that emits 380g of CO2/km! So, you might ask if this Ferrari will be penalized for parking in Paris? Honestly, the owner probably couldn’t care less. Once again, it depends on whether you are powerful or miserable…
