New update for Waze

The Waze app is getting a refresh on Android and iOS, particularly in terms of alerts, but it also removes some options.

The Google Waze app is especially useful for its ability to collect information about what’s happening on the road, all driven directly by users. The latest update for Waze aims to optimize the speed of alert publication to improve danger prevention.

A new hazard icon appears in the corner of the screen and brings up a simplified menu “What do you see?” Users then have the option to report various different road conditions. This includes traffic conditions, an accident, police activity (radars but it cannot be stated as such), bad weather, blocked lanes, road closures, etc. There are also options to report fuel prices or request roadside assistance from other travelers willing to lend a hand.

The redesign not only changes the visual appearance but also greatly simplifies report creation. While users previously had to navigate two or three menus to access this option, Waze will now quickly update the user interface with more specific choices for each category and automatically send the report after a few seconds without any additional input.

Some options appear to have been removed, such as displaying a stopped car in the middle of the road, although there is still an option for “car on the shoulder”.
