Cupra Electric Vehicles
Cupra Born
Small among compact cars, this 4.20-meter electric vehicle is the more upscale version of the Volkswagen ID.3. The Volkswagen Cupra adopts the MEB platform, common to all electric vehicles in the VW group, as well as engines or batteries. Initially launched with a 58 kWh battery, referred to as “L” at Cupra, it offers two engines: V (204 hp) and VZ (230 hp).

It was not until 2022 that the larger “XL” 77 kWh battery joined the Cupra Born’s catalog. This allows for a maximum range of over 550 kilometers, compared to approximately 425 kilometers for the “L” battery. Priced between €45,000 and €47,000, the Cupra Born also retains the full ecological bonus in France.
Future Cupra Models
Cupra Tavascan
Similar to the Formentor, a very loose adaptation of the Tiguan, the Tavascan is a more original version of the VW group’s electric SUVs: ID.4, Enyaq, or Q4 e-tron. Lower and with a more aggressive design, the Tavascan promises a dual front-rear motorization of 306 horsepower and is expected to feature the 77 kWh battery, claiming a range of 450 kilometers.

Cupra Urban Rebel
The concept cars date back to 2022, but patience is necessary as the production version will not arrive until 2025. A city car closer to 4 meters, thus entry-level under the Born, the Cupra Urban Rebel will be the brand’s least expensive electric car.

The first concept was very sporty, with three doors, then became more subdued with a second 5-door prototype, closer to the production version. This latter features a 100% electric propulsion of 166 kW (226 hp) and a battery allowing for 440 km of range.

Introduction and presentation of the Cupra brand

This brand is not historic like most car manufacturers. The entity is the creation of Seat, which chose to split its activities in two, where Cupra becomes the sporty premium brand. The badge began as early as 1996, as the sporty label for SEAT models.

The Cupra Tavascan, Terramar and Tavascan

But Cupra, like Polestar with Volvo or DS with Citroën, officially became independent in February 2018. The Spanish brand, based in Abrera, Catalonia (Spain), thus has its own logo and graphic identity. However, the first years are synonymous with rebadged SEAT models, but with their specific sporty versions.

It was only in 2020 that Cupra welcomed its first in-house model, the Formentor. This SUV, available in a plug-in hybrid e-Hybrid version, incorporates the brand’s new more aggressive design. In 2021, it was the turn of the second car, the electric Cupra Born. Cousin to the Volkswagen ID.3, it will receive a facelift in 2023 to sharpen its style.
