Vanmoof S3 Aluminium: Limited Edition Connected Bike

The brand launches a limited edition of its Vanmoof S3 Aluminium electric bike, attempting to mask the €150 price increase.

With the new generation Vanmoof S5, we thought that the S3 and X3 would quickly disappear from the catalog. Not at all! The Vanmoof S3 remains available, as does its smaller-wheeled derivative X3 (24 inches instead of 28) and dedicated frame. It even has a new version arriving in a few days.

A Retro Vanmoof S3 Aluminium?

This Vanmoof S3 Aluminium is the new limited edition of the Dutch electric bike. What are the differences from the base model? It’s solely aesthetic. The e-bike adopts a two-tone look, matte black like the original, with a brushed aluminum section on most of the frame. This version also adds a classic “Vanmoof” branding on the side, echoing the first M1 bike from 2008.

“Every element of a VanMoof bike is essential, but elevated to the highest possible level” states the brand, “the announcement of a limited edition frame pays tribute to this foundational idea.”

A new bike that masks rising prices

What the manufacturer doesn’t say is that the limited edition masks the price jump. Previously available at €2,348, the Vanmoof S3 and X3 are now priced at €2,498. The €150 increase — or +6% — accompanies no changes.

The front motor still delivers 59 Nm, and the automatic 4-speed transmission is the same. Likewise, connectivity remains unchanged, with many settings accessible via phone app, such as bell sounds or gear reports. It is possible to geolocate, receive movement alerts, and unlock the bike in hands-free mode.

You will need to pay even more for the Vanmoof S3 Aluminium, priced at €2,698. That’s an additional €200 compared to the base bike. It will be available for order on August 18, so patience is required. However, a pre-registration is available on the official website so you don’t miss it.
