Tour de France 2022: The Official Electric Bicycle Signed Vélo Mad

Partner of the Tour de France since 2021, Vélo Mad remains the official e-bikes of the event, with two specific models: Sport + and L’Urbain 2.

Vélo Mad is a French brand of electric bikes, founded in 2018 in Rouen and selling models since 2019. It was actually the Sport model that launched the manufacturer’s journey, before the open-frame Urbain. However, for the cycling event, the company chose a specific version.

Electric Bikes Sport+ and L’Urbain 2 for the Tour de France

This is not about the new Sport 2, which Vélo Mad launched at the end of 2021. The official Tour de France bike is the Sport +. Closely derived from the first-generation Sport, it shares almost all of its components. It features a classic aluminum frame, 27.5-inch WTB Horizon wheels, and a civilized look with mudguards, kickstand, and leather saddle and grips signed by Berthoud.

The electrical system pairs the 80 Nm motor located in the crankset with a traditional 10-speed Shimano Tiagra derailleur. The 460 Wh battery is seamlessly integrated, removable, allowing up to 80 km of range in the lowest assist mode. The Sport + Tour de France is available for 2,749 euros.

The Urbain 2, with the same features except for its open frame, also adopted the colors of the 2022 Tour de France, with its white color and logo, as well as Berthoud grips and saddle. This model is sold at a price of 2,249 euros.

The two e-bikes are limited edition with only 50 units available, on the official website. Other models exist, including the Sport currently on sale.

And an official electric car

Besides the official bike, there is always an official car brand for the Tour de France. Partner for 20 years, Skoda is returning for the 2022 edition, with its recent electric model. The Czech manufacturer chose to bring along the Enyaq, the electric SUV, to accompany the sporting event without polluting gas emissions.

The Skoda Enyaq is available in two body styles – standard and Coupé – as well as in different models 50, 60, 80, and 80X. The starting price is €37,930 or €471/month in a 36-month lease.

A 2022 Tour de France starting…from Copenhagen

Often, the Tour de France begins with a stage abroad, especially for the starting stages. But here, it’s not a neighboring country but Denmark that will kick off the race with the first three stages. Copenhagen, the capital, has strong credentials, being a bike-loving city.

After two other Danish routes, the Tour de France will return to France, with only brief passages through Belgium and Switzerland. In total, the riders will cover 21 stages totaling 3,350 kilometers, from July 1 to 24, 2022.
